After the Election in 2016, 
when our country seemed 
so divided,
I contemplated what 
I could personally do 
to make things better;
I think we all did. 
I tried doing everything: marching, 
volunteering, donating, 
advocating, boycotting. 
I got quickly overwhelmed. 
That’s when I decided 
I needed to breathe, 
and realize I can’t 
be everything to everyone. 
Just continue to be 
the best daughter, friend,
neighbor, and parent that I can be. 
I determined my most important job 
is to continue raising my kids to be open-minded, open-hearted, 
and kind. 
For now, that’s enough.
     
It’s bedtime for my little guy             
We snuggle up to read
I look into his big brown eyes           
As we dream and make believe
  
Right here is our happy place       
Fills up my cup as it fills his plate               
We’re whole we’re loved
we’re home and safe                
Where slaying all those dragons 
can wait
